Oh, the Pain!
Woke up at 3:30 this morning with a dreadful headache. Took two scrip pills for it and staggered back to bed to wait for them to take effect. They didn't. Not one tiny bit. Half an hour later, I took a third one. Half an hour after that, I took a fourth. Still no impact. Now I was dizzy AND in pain. By 5:30 I still wasn't any better and I couldn't drive, to boot. I was forced to call in sick.
One of the suckier things about teaching is that you can't just call in. You also have to send lesson plans for the sub. So there I was, dizzily and painfully propped up at my computer, trying to compose something for my students to do. I sent it in and tried to sleep, but the pain wouldn't let me.
At 5:50, my usual rising time, I gave up and took a shower and got the boys up. I also made them breakfast, though this was a little tricky with the medication making the kitchen yaw unexpectedly from time to time, but the boys thought it was pretty cool to get a hot breakfast on a school day.
After they left, I took yet another pill. A bit later, I was seriously considering risking a drive to the hospital--it's only half a mile up the road--when the meds FINALLY started to work. The pain receded and I went back to bed for a couple hours. When I got up, the room swam again but at least the pain was gone.
The dizziness fully subsided around 11:30 or so, thought I still feel a bit off. I'm also constantly hungry--a side-effect of the medication.
