The Battle of the Front Porch
We went up to my mother's house today. The house was built in 1929, and the previous owner lived there from when he was he a boy. He left a fair amount of possessions behind when he moved out. One of these was a set of hand-cast toy soldiers orignally kept in a cigar box. Mackie has found them, and when he goes up to Grandma's house, they're one of his favorite toys. (Who needs video games?)
Today, he staged the Battle of Grandma's Front Porch.
Fortunately for historians, we have a photo record:

A moment of prayer before the battle begins.

The defending side lines up.

The attacking side checks their weapons.

Reinforcements await orders.

The attacking side moves to take the field.

The opposing side takes cover, but receives casualties.

The attackers move forward, but not without casualties of their own.

A moment of contemplations between battles.

The defenders send out a scout, but he is discovered . . .

. . . and slaughtered.

The defenders take heavy casualties.

Reinforcements arrive for the defenders.

They inflict terrible revenge on the attackers.

But even the reinforcements are wiped out.

The battle leaves few survivors.

In the end, there are no victors, only victims.
