Decorating 2010
Last weekend was decoration time! It was the first time decorating in the new place. It was Aran's turn to accompany me to the grocery store, and on the way home, we stopped at a tree place and picked out a tree. There's a little alcove near the front door which is perfect for a Yule tree, especially if the tree is tall and narrow. It doesn't take over the whole living room, and at take-down time, the tree is only a few steps from the front door, minimalizing needleness. Perfect!
All four of us got out the decorations (handily located in the enormous front hall closet--I think I like not having a basement) and set to work. Sasha streamed Ukrainian Christmas music through the computer. Mackie set up the Charlie Brown stuff on one of the bookshelves, and Sasha handled the Goddess creche, and Aran sorted. The tree went up without a hitch, and the decorations looked loverly as ever.
Over Thanksgiving weekend I bought some weighted stocking hooks. They perch on atop a shelve or alcove while the hook hangs below for the stocking. The top part is heavy so as to keep the stocking from pulling everything down. I got silvery ones shaped like letters: an M, A, S, and D. There's a little shelf at the turn in the staircase, and we put the stockings there. It looks pretty cool!
And now we're ready for Yule!
