Gnomes and Sushi
Yesterday I told the boys we were going to do a family outing, and they could choose: 1) the Detroit Institute of Art, 2) a movie, or 3) the zoo. After some discussion among themselves, they finally settled on a movie, and Aran and Maksim voted for GNOMEO AND JULIET. And off we went.
The movie was cute-but-predictable. It needed more Shakespearean references, though. (I caught all of them, even the more esoteric ones, and I felt like I should have been working harder.) And it also owed an awful lot to TOY STORY. Still, it was nice enough. The boys liked it.
Afterward, we went for dinner at the weirdest restaurant Wherever has to offer--a sushi pub. Yeah, you read right. Sushi pub. The middle is a restaurant seating area. The right wall has a sports bar on it, and the left wall has a sushi bar on it. You can order pub food or sushi.
I figured this was perfect--those who wanted sushi could have it, and those who wanted a hamburger could get one. Interestingly, the boys all opted for sushi, excpet Aran, who wanted udon. Huh.
The sushi chef was new, and our order took him forEVER to make. It arrived in dribs and drabs, too. Aran, who dislikes sushi, got his udon last. The sushi itself was decent but not great. I don't know if we'll go back or not.
But although the entertainment and food were mediocre, the family time was very nice. Sasha played chaffeur and Maksim played cute little brother and Aran tried to start a fire by rubbing chopsticks together. Sasha demonstrated teenage fortitude by putting hot sauce in his soda, which Aran found highly amusing. It was a good afternoon.
