I wasn't able to finish the Silent Empire short story in time for the Torquere Press thing.  Dangit!  The story stalled out on me as I realized the problem of writing a standalone piece about characters and a universe with so much backstory.  In a book there's room to gradually drop in the necessary information, but in a short story (even an long one), there just isn't room.  Live and learn.

Maybe I'll finish later anyway and post it free on-line.
