Coming Out Again and Again and Again
Feb. 19th, 2018 08:59 pmI've said before that coming out is a lifelong event, not the single-shot deal Hollywood likes to portray. Today it happened again.
Darwin and I are planning a vacation to Cape Cod (Provincetown) and Boston for the summer. As we like to, we found accommodations through AirBnB and for the Cape, settled on a quaint studio apartment in Orleans, not far from P-Town. When I made the reservation, I included Darwin's name and email on the "additional people" part of the form and wrote a brief email to the owner that basically said, "My husband and I are looking forward to a short vacation on the Cape."
The owner wrote back, "Dear Steven ('s wife), . . . " She had assumed my wife had logged in to AirBnB with my account. I wrote back and said, "Darwin is actually my husband. We're sure we'll have a great time!"
There was a pause, then a response: "My mistake. We're looking forward to meeting you."
And we've come out yet again.
