Kala's Birthday
Mar. 4th, 2008 07:06 pmToday is Kala's 41st birthday. (!) Her present is a short trip to Nashville,so no shopping to do, but she wanted a carrot cake. Yesterday I realized that I wouldn't have time to make it today, so I made it last evening.
We had all the ingredients on hand except pineapple and carrots, so I popped out to the store for them and quickly put together a tasty-smelling carrot cake. Carrot cakes are actually quite easy to make from scratch (don't tell!). I put it out on the porch to cool when it was done, then frosted it just before bedtime.
All in all, it was long, long day!
We had the cake this evening with chocolate moose tracks ice cream. Kala liked it very much.

Birthday Celebration
Jan. 19th, 2008 06:30 pmSaturday was birthday celebration day.
I was (still am) shaky from the flu, so it was lower-key for me than I would have liked. I was hoping I'd be up to making a regular cake for Sasha, but just wasn't, so I used a mix. That afternoon, my mother came down and took us all out to lunch. It was nice time. The boys were well-behaved, actually, and we had real conversations and everything.
Sasha is a bit uncertain about turning 15. Unlike most teenagers, he wants to be =younger=. I still wonder if there was a mistake on his birth certificate.
Back at home, Sasha opened presents. From Grandma he got a sweatshirt and a long-sleeved shirt, both of which he liked. From us he got a watch, which he desperately needs (and he asked for). Then it was cake and ice cream time! Nom nom nom.
So now Sasha's fifteen!
